The Sunlit Hall Scandal

The morning of the wedding was supposed to be the happiest day for the Vance family. Sunbeams poured through the massive crystal windows of the estate, lighting up the polished white marble floors. Florists carried huge arches of white roses through the hallways, filling the air with a fresh scent. Arthur Vance stood near the grand entrance, checking his silver cufflinks while his assistant went over the guest list. As the head of Vance Enterprises, Arthur was used to managing chaotic situations, but today was personal. His only daughter, Sarah, was marrying Julian Sterling, the heir to Sterling Capital. The union was expected to merge two of the biggest financial empires in the city. Yet inside Arthur's chest, a quiet anxiety had been lingering all morning.

Julian was handsome, charismatic, and came from old money, but Arthur had always noticed a cold edge behind his polished smile. Whenever Julian spoke to the estate staff, his tone carried an understated arrogance that bothered Arthur deeply. However, Sarah had insisted that Julian was kind when they were alone, so Arthur had pushed his doubts aside for her happiness. Suddenly, the quiet murmurs of the wedding planners were interrupted by a sharp, loud noise upstairs. It sounded like glass shattering against wood, followed by a heavy thud that echoed down the wide stairwell. Arthur froze immediately, looking up toward the private dressing suites on the second floor.

Before Arthur could move, the heavy mahogany doors at the top of the stairs burst open. Sarah ran out into the balcony corridor, her hands trembling as she held the front of her torn white dress. Tears smeared her mascara down her pale cheeks, and a dark shadow was already forming near her left eye. Arthur felt his heart stop instantly as he took in the sight of his bruised daughter. He leaped up the stairs two at a time, ignoring his assistant calling out behind him. When Sarah saw her father, she collapsed forward into his arms, sobbing so hard her body shook violently. Arthur wrapped his suit jacket around her, holding her tightly against his chest while looking toward her room.

Arthur: Sarah, look at me. What happened in there?

Sarah: Please, dad, don't let him near me!

Arthur: Nobody is touching you ever again. Who did this?

Sarah: Julian... he flew into a rage over the prenup document.

Arthur pulled his daughter behind his shoulder as footsteps slowly approached from the open doorway. Julian stepped out into the light of the hallway, slowly adjusting the black bow tie on his dark velvet tuxedo. He did not look panicked, nor did he look guilty; instead, a calm, casual smile rested on his face. He leaned against the carved railing, looking down at Arthur and Sarah as if nothing unusual had taken place. Guests who had arrived early began gathering in the grand hall below, whispering as they witnessed the disturbing confrontation happening on the upper landing.

Julian: There is no need for a scene, Arthur. We have guests downstairs.

Arthur: You laid your hands on my daughter in my own home?

Julian: She was being unreasonable about the trust fund terms. She should have stayed in her place.

The arrogant words hung in the warm morning air, turning the bright hall deathly quiet. Julian took a slow step forward, reaching out a hand as if to grab Sarah's arm again. Arthur's jaw locked, his body stiffening with pure rage as he pushed Sarah safely behind a marble pillar. Without taking another breath, Arthur charged forward with explosive speed across the slick floor, closing the distance between them in a split second. His heavy fist connected with Julian's jaw with a loud sound that echoed through the entire mansion. The impact lifted Julian off his feet, sending him crashing heavily onto the marble floor.
