The Confrontation In The Office

The room went completely silent. Even the sound of the wind outside the tall windows seemed to stop. Julian turned his head slowly to look at his mother, his expression turning from anger to absolute disgust and horror. Evelyn stepped back against the edge of the large desk, her hands shaking so hard that her gold bracelets rattled together loudly. She tried to laugh off the accusation, but her voice was weak, shrill, and completely unconvincing to anyone listening in the room.

Evelyn: That is a disgusting lie! How dare you accuse me of such a terrible crime in my own house!

Maria: It is not a lie, Mr. Julian! I saw Mrs. Evelyn in the garage the night before the trip! She had grease on her hands!

Evelyn: Shut up, you dirty old servant! I will have you fired and thrown into prison for slander!

Julian: You won't be firing anyone today, Mother. In fact, you are going to sit down right now and wait for the police to arrive.

Julian reached into his suit jacket and pulled out his cell phone, instantly dialing the emergency number. Evelyn let out a high-pitched scream of rage and lunged forward across the desk, reaching out her long fingernails to grab the phone from Julian’s hand. Julian stepped back calmly, blocking her arms with his broad shoulders and pushing her back into the leather office chair. Evelyn scrambled to get up, her face twisted with a mixture of terror and unbridled malice as she realized her life of luxury was coming to an end.

Evelyn: You are my son! You cannot betray your own mother for this crippled girl!

Julian: You destroyed our father, you tried to destroy Clara, and you treated Maria like an animal. You betrayed this family a long time ago.

Clara: It's over, Evelyn. You will never hurt anyone in this family ever again.

Evelyn: You think you have won, Clara?! You are nothing without your father! You will rot in this empty house all alone!

Maria: She will never be alone again, Mrs. Evelyn. She has people who actually care about her heart, not her bank balance.

Within fifteen minutes, the loud sirens of local police cars could be heard echoing up the long winding driveway of the estate. Two officers walked into the grand office, led by a local police detective who had been investigating the strange circumstances surrounding the father's fatal car crash for weeks. Julian handed over the small blue capsules, the crushed paper cup, and the altered legal trust fund documents as evidence of attempted poison, assault, and financial fraud.

Detective: Mrs. Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for attempted murder, assault, and grand fraud. Put your hands behind your back.

Evelyn: Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?! My lawyer will have all of you fired by tomorrow morning!

Detective: Save it for the courtroom, ma'am. You have the right to remain silent.
